Philadelphia University offers associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees through its five schools: the School of Architecture & Design, the School of Business Administration, the School of General Studies, the School of Science & Health, and the School of Textiles & Materials Tech.
Founded as the Philadelphia Textile School in 1884, it soon became affiliated with the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the School of Industrial Art. Its location was then in Center City at the intersection of Broad and Pine streets. In 1941 its name became the Philadelphia Textile Institute upon its being given the ability to award bachelor's degrees.
In 1949 the Institute moved from Center City to East Falls, and 12 years later changed its name once again, to Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science. Additional programs to the original one in textiles were added, and the school began granting the MBA in 1976.
Having officially been made a university by the state government, the school's name was changed to Philadelphia University on July 13, 1999.
