Princess Phuong Mai was born on August 1, 1937, in Dalat, Vietnam. Her parents are Emperor Bao Dai and Empress Nam Phuong of Vietnam.
In 1947, Empress Nam Phuong left Vietnam with her children and lived at the Chateau Thorenz outside of Cannes, France.
Phuong Mai received her education in France and did not return to Vietnam.
On August 5, 1971, Phuong Mai married Don Pietro Badoglio, 2nd Duke of Addis Ababa and Marquess of Sabotino.
