Pinewood Film Studios - Definition and Overview

Pinewood Studios is a major film studio that is situated approximately 20 miles west of London among the pine trees on what was the estate of Heatherden Hall in the village of Iver Heath in Iver Parish, in the county of Buckinghamshire, England.

Origination

Pinewood Studios was created in 1934 by Charles Boot and built within 12 months by the Henry Boot Company of Sheffield, England. Charles Boot drew his inspiration from the latest movie studios then existing in Hollywood, California.

Management and Development

J. Arthur Rank later took control of both Pinewood Film Studios and Denham Film Studios which had been the location of films by Alexander Korda.
