Piper Halliwell is the second Charmed One of the Halliwell Sisters in the television series Charmed, later to become the eldest sister (see below).
Piper was known as a Club Manager, a Chef, and Mother of Two.
She is played by Holly Marie Combs, who is now also a producer of the series.
Piper's Story
Piper Halliwell was born on June 5, 1973 to Patricia Halliwell and Victor Bennett, their second child.
As a witch she developed the power to freeze time. March 24th, 1975 she was visited by a future version of herself. It was also on that day that Patty signed a pact with the warlock Nicholas to make him a ring that made him immune to her daughter's powers.
After Piper's little sister Phoebe was born in November 1975, Penny bound their powers to keep Nicholas from killing them and taking their powers.
In the early part of the Charmed history, Piper is the middle sister of the three. She begins as meek, shy and very much the arbiter between her sisters Phoebe and Prudence.
Trained as a chef, she works for the bulk of these series' 1 at a trendy bar in down town San Fransisco called "Quake". She seems to be widely considered one of the better chefs in San Fransisco (where the series is based.)
Once the Charmed linage is revealed, Piper is initially shocked, and then disturbed by her new powers, scared that she may hurt someone.
During this time she fears that becoming a witch may make her unable to enter a church, but rapidly discovers this is not the case, which seems to allay her fears somewhat.
When Piper gets scratched by a Wendigo, she laters becomes a Wendigo herself. But Prue and Phoebe were able to reverse the process by vanquishing the one who scratched her.
As she grows into her powers she becomes more outgoing, but is generally the arbiter between Phoebe's wilder, more outgoing tendancies and Prue's more conservative attitude.
Piper had fell in love with her handyman, Leo Wyatt, who had turned out to have been a whitelighter. Because of the law that Whitelighters are not to fall in love with their charges, the Elder Whitelighters had to forbid them from seeing each other by taking them off of their "account".
Piper gave up her job as a restaurant manager to open her own club, called P3.
Piper started a romance with their new neighbor Dan Gordon.
Piper was infected with a rare fatal blood disease and Leo was forbidden from helping her. When she died in the hospital, Leo met her as her spirit left her body and healed her. As punishment the elder Whitelighters clipped his wings and made him human. Being mortal, Leo decided to focus on winning Piper's heart.
Leo eventually won her heart, but when a Darklighter targeted Piper's sister Prue, Leo begged to have his powers returned so he could save her. He got them back, but didn't break off his relationship with Piper.
When the Elders issued an ultimatum about Piper and Leo's relationship, Leo proposed to Piper, who, after some hesitation, accepted. They tried to marry in secret but the Elders were told of their plans and they took Leo away.
When the Elders forbade Piper from ever seeing Leo again, Piper decided to go on strike from being a witch. But once she realized that she still had a job to do and she still had to save innocents despite her anger over Leo, the Elders sent him back, giving them a chance to prove that their relationship would not interfere with their jobs.
When the evil alchemist Kierkin and his life essence creation Terra squabbled about him controlling her, she escaped and found her way to the Charmed Ones, where she possessed Piper during her 10 year class reunion. Kierkin followed Terra, but was slain by the Charmed Ones. Although Terra was able to pretend she was Piper for a little while eventually her sisters caught on to her plan. In order to save Piper Prue killed her and had Terra possess Leo, forced Terra use her alchemist powers to revive Piper, then with the Power of Three the sisters were able to vanquish the essence from Leo.
After a friend of Piper's discovered that Victor was back in town Piper went to investigate. About this time Prue noticed a strange ice cream truck that seemed to be abducting little kids. When Prue and Phoebe followed the truck they were sucked into it, where they found a strange frozen park inside and many children trapped there, being sucked into the nothing one by one. Phoebe and Prue freed several of the kids and trapped the driver inside his own truck, only to learn the children were demons and the truck was good. They contacted Victor and discovered that he could open the door on the ice cream truck because only humans could and asked for his help in freeing the truck's driver and recapturing the demons. Although the driver was taken by the nothing, they captured the demons and helped the new driver get his truck. This also helped Prue reconcile her feelings for Victor, who decided to move back into town.
After months of waiting, the Elders finally lifted probation and Piper and Leo became officially engaged after the sisters helped stop Eames the warlock who had obtained the powers necessary to destroy all whitelighters.
Leo and Piper were married by the ghost of her grandmother Penny in a special ceremony. The sisters father Victor, Phoebe's half-demon boyfriend Cole Turner and Detective Darryl Morris attended the wedding, and the whitelighter elders sent Patty back to Earth for the day to attend the wedding as a gift.
Her power grew so that she could not only freeze objects, but speed up their molecules, causing them to blow apart, something that took a lot of getting used to for Piper.
When the Halliwell Sisters were exposed as witches to the world, Piper was shot by a wanna-be witch because the Sisters would not allow her to be part of their coven. Prue was killed by the demon Shax, an assassin of The Source.
After Prue's funeral Piper and Phoebe discovered that they had a half sister named Paige Matthews, who their mother had hidden because she was the product of an affair with her whitelighter. Piper and Phoebe helped Paige discovered her powers and they became the new Charmed Ones and vanquished Shax. Despite the Source of All Evil's failed attempt to turn Paige evil, she accepted her life as a good witch.
Piper then tried to work out her anger over loosing Prue by hunting down random demons. Piper was exposed to the breath of a Fury and became one of those creatures, but she was able to overcome the transformation.
When a evil zen student named Yenlo tired to kill his former master, Piper tried to save him by swapping souls with him so he could lead the other sisters to where he was being kept in limbo.
Piper gets herself shrunk to a few inches by Gammil's magic wand.
Piper's yearning for a mortal life is put to ill effect when the Source takes advantage of this and puts her in a fabricated mental hospital in an attempt to steal her powers. Great emoting from Piper as we see her gradually crack and believe the Source's lies.
The Charmed Ones were able to finally vanquish the Source of All Evil, but unbeknownst to them, the Source's powers had taken over Cole's body.
The Angel of Destiny gave Piper a hint about Piper and Leo's personal future. That Piper was finally pregnant!
Piper feels responsible for losing Phoebe due to her panic attacks and becomes obsessed with writing a spell to find her sister. But something Leo says inspires her to write a fearless spell, which does remove her fear and stops her panic attacks but also makes her confident to the extreme of becoming reckless. Because of her fearlessness, Piper faces Necron by herself and he kidnaps her, chaining her to a metal gate and torturing her. Phoebe, Paige and Leo come to Piper's rescue and, using a spell, manage to vanquish Necron. The explosion from the vanquish knocks the gate to which Piper was chained into the ocean, dragging Piper with it. As she struggles to free herself, Patty appears to Piper in the water. She tells her daughter what she has been afraid of dying and leaving her child without a mother like Patty did. Phoebe rescues Piper and much to everyone's surprise the baby displays one of its powers, healing Piper's wounds before Leo can touch her.
Leo and Piper had their powers swapped by their unborn baby for a short time, until they learned to appreciate how hard each other's lives are.
Piper was briefly transformed into a super hero by Kevin, a male witch with the power to make his drawings come to life. In this form she had super speed, strength, and was able to stop bullets.
Piper uses a Time Ripple to go back in time to save Paige and Phoebe from being vanquished by telling Piper that she had to let Phoebe's boyfriend get shot before deadly events happen.
Piper and Cole realizes that they are both invulnerable to each others attacks.
In an alternate reality that Cole created so that Paige would never meet the Charmed Ones, Piper is a renegade demon-hunter, divorced from Leo, concerned only with killing Shax and avenging Prue's death. Paige, from the real reality, enlisted the help of her sisters to vanquish Cole, for good, so that reality would return to the way it was.
When the Halliwell home started to suffer from hauntings due to all the past evil killed there, Piper summoned a witch doctor to cleanse the home. Although the witch doctor did his job, he was worried about the power the sisters commanded and their susceptibility to all that evil. The council of witch doctors decided it was best for the world if they got rid of the sisters, so they cast a voodoo spell on them, hoping their obsessions would destroy them. Piper became so obsessed with a clean house she attempted to destroy the manor and start over with a cleaner house. Leo as able to help the sisters overcome their obsessions and they warned the witch doctors not to come after them again.
When Piper was diagnosed with toxemia, she began to worry about the safety of her child. But her baby was delivered safely by Paige and Phoebe at the manor and all were surprised to discover that the baby was a boy.
Piper was afraid to leave her baby when she and Phoebe had to find out who placed a bounty on her baby. She named him Wyatt after his daddy and Matthew for his middle name after Paige.
Piper's sight was stolen by a monkey, that was sent by the Crone.
When Piper and Leo's arguing began affecting Piper's powers, Phoebe suggested that they visit a marriage counselor. Piper cast a spell that allowed them to relive the good and difficult times during their relationship, which reminded them of why they got married. But as well as reaffirming their relationship, the session allowed them to realize that they had issues to work out.
The Charmed Ones met Chris Perry, the whitelighter from the future. Piper was once transformed into a nature goddess to combat the titans, but later returned to normal. While she was a goddess she was able to teleport anywhere at will, could control the weather, throw lightning bolts and sense the location of her sisters. Piper was consumed with anger when she learned that Leo might have to leave her and Wyatt to assume his new position as an Elder, but eventually both of them realized that Leo needed to act for the sake of the greater good.
Since Piper and Leo's parting, Piper had become increasingly happy. Alarmed by her change in attitude Paige and Phoebe told Chris to ask Leo about Piper, but Chris admitted that Leo had been kidnapped. When Paige and Phoebe told Piper that Leo was missing, she was oddly unaffected by the news, not really remembering their parting. But when the sisters finally found Leo, Piper's memories came flooding back. She demanded to know why she did not remember Leo leaving her, and Leo told her that he used his powers to make her forget and not feel as much pain. Not wanting to face the pain and anger she felt toward Leo, Piper became a Valkyrie.
Phoebe and Paige confronted Piper, using a spell to make Piper feel her suppressed emotions. Once confronted with her pain, Piper realized that she did not belong with the Valkyries and returned home. Leo apologized to Piper for taking away her feelings. Piper said that she understood that he was only trying to help, but she told him that since he was still an Elder she would appreciate his keeping his distance so that she might move on with her life.
Even though Piper tried to distance herself from Leo, she realized how much Leo missed Wyatt and how much Wyatt missed his daddy, so she told him that he could visit as much as he wanted when she was not around. But much to Leo's disappointment, Piper asked him for a divorce when she started to date again.
Piper was able to pull Excalibur out of the Stone, and Mordaunt had manipulated her to enlist a few demons to become her knights, so he can steal their powers to take control of the sword so he can kill the real owner of the sword -- Wyatt. Piper and her sisters were able to stop him, and decided to put the sword away to someplace safe.
Piper had befriended the ugly Beast that kidnapped her so he can get back his son.
Paige and Phoebe had created Mr. Right for Piper's birthday.
When a demon used the power of a genie to wish the Charmed Ones dead, Leo's connection to Piper saved the sisters. Even though he and Piper were in a magically-induced sleep, Leo heard Piper's cries for help when her spirit began to move to the afterlife and he healed her. This incident drew Piper closer to Leo, as she was reminded of her connection to him.
When Piper and Leo became stranded in the ghostly plane with Leo shot by a darklighter's arrow and no one around to heal him, their defenses finally came down. When Leo told Piper that he still loved her, they ended up spending the night together. Because his presence at the manor had put his son at risk to the darklighter, Leo finally realized that he needed to take his place as an Elder. So when Paige and Phoebe told Piper that because she and Leo had slept together that Piper was pregnant with Chris, Piper felt that she could not tell Leo about their new son because he had finally been able to accept his new destiny.
Piper had decided to go to Magic School while she was pregnant, since she had protective field and demons couldn't attack her.
The idea of Wyatt being threatened drew Piper and Leo closer together.
Piper had gone into labor with Chris, and while she was at the hospital, she was losing a lot of blood, but she was able to deliver Chris, alive. WIth Chris being born, Piper and Leo could finally be a family once again.
Piper and Leo was possessed by two Hindu Gods. PIper was possessed by Shakti, the Goddess of Creation, and gained four extra arms and electricity generation.
Piper, Phoebe, and Paige were turned into quarrelling teenagers by Grams.
The Angel of Death had recruited Piper to help him collect more souls to cross over.
Piper could not understand how Leo could make such a tremendous comeback, but she was willing to accept Leo back into her life once again, despite the fact that he told her that he was an Avatar.
