Pittwater is the name of a local government area in metropolitan Sydney, Australia
The suburbs which comprise Pittwater were detached from the Warringah local government area in 1993. It covers a region adjacent to the Pacific Ocean about 30 km north east of downtown Sydney.
Pittwater includes the suburbs of Warriewood, Mona Vale, Bayview, Newport, Avalon, Whale Beach, and Palm Beach.
Pittwater is also the name of one of the arms of Broken Bay, the estuary of the Hawkesbury River. Pittwater was named after the British Prime Minister, William Pitt the Younger, in about 1800 and is a very popular sailing area.
