Planet Earth (and other tourist traps) is a web comic by Thomas Deeny. It began as a strip called (the story so far...) in the Texas A&M Batallion; the first strips in Planet Earth (and other tourist traps) are from that strip.

The comic revolves around four main characters: Moriarty, Monika, Dex, and Janet. It is not quite clear whether most of the cast has graduated college or not; Moriarty, at least, has. The comic is set the fictional town of Independence, Texas. The characters currently live in an abandoned missile silo.

Characters

  • Hector Alphonzo Moriarty, who goes by his last name, is an employee at Adult World, a pornographic video- and bookstore. For a time, he was also "Sledgehammer", the sidekick of Hazardman, a local superhero. Moriarty once dated a woman named Ainsley, who turned out to be a supervillain named Ice Queen.
  • Monika Diane Moriarty is Moriarty's older sister. She makes up horoscopes for the Independence Argus-Sentinel. She dated Dex for a long time, but then dated Roy, Hazardman's alter ego.
  • Dextrose (alias: Dex T. Rose) is an alien sent to scout the Earth to prepare for an invasion. However, he fell in love with Monika and tried to cancel the invasion. His actual form resembles a brain in a jar of liquid; his human body is a holographic projection. Every strip he's in has an arrow pointing to him proclaiming "ALIEN!"
  • Janet Holiday is a drummer in a band called "Porn Star". She works at the Crab Shack as a waitress. Janet wears an eye patch for the fashion value. She is a lesbian.
