Plateia - Definition and Overview

Plateia (πλατεία) is the Greek word for town square. Most Greek and Cypriot cities have one or several town squares.

Most notable squares/plateies (ordered by place)

  • Monastiraki, Omonia, and Syntagma Squares (Constitution Square) all three in Athens
  • Plateia Amerikis - suburban Athens
  • Plateia Syntagmatos - Nafplio
  • Georgiou II Square (George II Square), Olga Square Plateia Olgas - all in Patras
  • Agias Mimas Square - Spetses
  • Kennedy Square, and two others - Tripoli
