Point Reyes Station is located at 38°4'24" North, 122°48'22" West (38.073344, -122.806022)1. It forms the gateway to the Point Reyes National Seashore, an extremely popular national preserve.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.4 km² (3.6 mi²). 9.4 km² (3.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 818 people, 352 households, and 218 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 87.0/km² (225.1/mi²). There are 373 housing units at an average density of 39.7/km² (102.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 92.05% White, 0.61% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 3.91% from other races, and 2.93% from two or more races. 9.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 352 households out of which 27.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.1% are married couples living together, 8.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.8% are non-families. 29.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.28 and the average family size is 2.83.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 19.3% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 23.1% from 25 to 44, 35.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 85.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $57,292, and the median income for a family is $69,821. Males have a median income of $41,181 versus $38,269 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $39,339. 6.6% of the population and 6.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 15.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
