Political drama - Definition

The term Political Drama can be used in several senses. In one sense it describes a play, film or TV program that has a political component, whether reflecting the author's political opinion, or describing a politician or series of political events. Dramatists who have written political drama include Sergei Eisenstein, Bertolt Brecht, Jean Paul Sartre and Federico García Lorca and many more. There have been many television series that can be classified as political drama, such as Yes, Prime Minister and The West Wing (television).

A political drama can be presented in the form of a roman a clef or with fictional characters representing actual persons, to avoid legal or other action being taken against the writer, or to show events in a symbolic light.
