The Polizia di Stato (State Police) is the National police of Italy.
The Polizia di Stato is responsible for providing general police duties in the major towns of Italy, patrolling the autostrada, railways and certain waterways, and assisting the local police. It is a civil police force as opposed to its Carabinieri cousins. It does have a military organization and mindset, but its personnel are considered civilians. It headquarters is in Rome and it is organized on a regional and provincial basis.
