Popups
An advertising method where a banner will Pop Up out of nowhere and onto your computer. A popup will sometimes pop over web content to get it in your face, or perhaps trick you into clicking on it. Free software, such as Kazaa, or certain websites are free to the user but labeled as Popup Supported, getting income they might charge to users from advertisers willing to pay for their ads to pop all over the place.
Popups are usually considered a nuisance and many anti-virus programs and browser add-ons, like the Google Toolbar, will contain a popup blocker.
