The Porsche 912 is a sports car automobile made by Porsche GmbH of Germany. It wore essentially the same body as the 911 and rode on the same chassis, although there were numerous mechanical and equipment differences, most noteablly the 912s 356 sourced engine, a small boxer four. Porsche introduced the 912 originally in 1965, and built it through 1969 before replacing it with the 914, which offered the choice of a new VW-sourced flat four or the 911 S derived boxer six engine. Porsche produced slightly more than 30,000 during the initial four year run, then reintroduced it for short period during 1976 as the 912E. 1976 "E" models featured the newer 911 bodywork and a fuel injected version of the same 356-derived boxer four. 2,099 were manufactured before the car was finally retired permanently.
