Port Sudan - Definition

Port Sudan is The Republic of Sudan's main port city, on the Red Sea. It was founded by the British in 1905 and was used to transport the nations agricultural riches of cotton and sesame seed including the cereal sorghum.

A city of nearly 300,000 is known for its diving, great beaches and offshore petroleum interests. Tourists often use Port Sudan as a departure point to cross the Red Sea to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
