Pouch (orchids) - Definition and Overview


In some genera of the orchid family (Orchidaceae), the labellum (lip) is modified into a slipper-shaped structure called a pouch'. Pouches occur in the genus Coryanthes and in all members of the Cypripedioideae except Phragmipedium lindenii.
