Power Rangers Zeo is a continuation of the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. It is based on the Super Sentai series Chouriki Sentai OhRanger (translated as Super Power Task Force OhRanger). Power Rangers Zeo is the first series in Power Rangers that is part of the annual Ranger suit change to match the annual change of the Super Sentai series.
In the series, after recovering from the destruction of the Command Center, the Rangers have discovered the Zeo Crystal that led them into the ground, where Zordon and Alpha 5 had survived the destruction in the Power Chamber.
A new set of villains called the Machine Empire decided to take control of the Earth. They chase Rita Repulsa and Zedd away from the moon, and Rito and Goldar are left on Earth, with no memories of their past.
The Rangers become the Zeo Rangers, empowered by the Zeo Crystal. Tanya Sloan becomes the a new Ranger as the Yellow Zeo Ranger, while Billy becomes their technical advisor. Through their battles with the Machine Empire, they found a new Ranger, the Gold Ranger.
It turns out the Gold Ranger is an alien, Trey of Triforia, that is injured at the moment and must pass on his powers to a worthy warrior while he heals. He first tries Billy, but it turns out that he has negative energy from the explosion of the Comand Center. The powers then go to Jason Lee Scott, the original Red Power Ranger in the first generation.
Billy leaves Earth to be with his alien girlfriend, Cestria, on Aquitar. The Gold Ranger powers return to Trey of Triforia.
