Prayer to Saint Michael - Definition and Overview

The Prayer to Saint Michael is a Catholic prayer directed to Michael the archangel.

It was introduced by Pope Leo XIII at the end of the 19th century and was customarily recited on behalf of the Catholic Church at the end of Mass (liturgy). Although no longer recited in this manner, Pope John Paul II has urged Catholics to renew the practice.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.
