In 2004, New York once again voted for the democratic candidate, Senator Kerry, even if Predisent Bush won nationally. Republicans did not win in New York in Presidential election since 1984 and Ronald Reagan's victory.
Senator Kerry won 1,823,758 votes in New York city for only 562,339 to President Bush. Hence, if the city was independent from the state, this one would have been a been a swing state, won by a slighty margin by Senator Kerry (2,490,522 to 2,400,228)
