Prince Edward Augustus, Duke of York 1739-1767 was the younger brother of George III of Great Britain, the second son of Frederick, Prince of Wales and Augusta of Saxe-Gotha. He was created Duke of York and Albany by his grandfather George II in 1760. Between his grandfather's death in 1760 and the birth of the Prince of Wales in 1762, he was heir-presumptive to the British throne.
