Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York (Beatrice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor) (born August 8, 1988) is a member of the British Royal Family, a granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II. Princess Beatrice is currently fifth in the line of succession.

Birth

Princess Beatrice was born on August 8, 1988 at the Portland Hospital in London. Her father is HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York, the third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Her mother is Sarah, Duchess of York, (née Sarah Ferguson), the daughter of Major Ronald Ferguson.

As a granddaughter of the British monarch in the male line, Beatrice is styled Princess of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with the style Her Royal Highness.

Education

Princess Beatrice is currently attending St George's School in Ascot, Berkshire. It had been planned to send her to Aiglon College in Switzerland, however a sex scandal involving the headmaster forced her parents to re-think.

The Princess is known to be a regular in the school choir.

Homelife

Following the divorce of her parents, the Duke and Duchess of York when Princess Beatrice was only 8, she spends her time equally with both parents. All the York family currently reside at Sunninghill Park in Ascot.

It had been suggested that Princess Beatrice and her sister, HRH Princess Eugenie of York be stripped of their royal status as a "downsizing" of the Royal Family. However, their father, the Duke of York is strongly opposed to this idea.

Future

As a relatively minor royal, Princess Beatrice lives a relatively low profile life. Recently however, she has been photographed in the British media with various boyfriends.

It is not clear whether the Princess will undertake royal duties when she comes of age, however there will be fewer women in the Royal Family in coming years, leaving a role for a princess of the blood royal to fulfil. She has already undertaken some charity work alongside her mother, the Duchess of York, and made headlines visiting HIV infected children in Russia.
