Como (It. Provincia di Como) is a province in the Lombardy region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Como.

It has an area of 1,288 sq km, and a total population of 537,500 (2001). There are 163 communes in the province (source: Italian institute of statistics Istat, see this link (http://www.upinet.it/indicatore.asp?id_statistiche=6)).

Mountains (Lombard Alps) and some hills cover the territory of the province, and the most important body of water is the glacial Lake Como. Como is also famous because it is the city of Alessandro Volta, inventor of the Electric Battery in 1800.
