Messina (It. Provincia di Messina) is a province in the autonomous island region of Sicily in Italy. Its capital is the city of Messina.
It has an area of 3,247 sq km, and a total population of 662,450 (2001). There are 108 communes in the province (source: Italian institute of statistics Istat, see this link (http://www.upinet.it/indicatore.asp?id_statistiche=6)).
Besides the capital Messina, other cities and places of interest in the province include Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Milazzo, the Aeolian Islands (Lipari), Tindari, Taormina and Capo d'Orlando.
