Put-in-Bay is a village located in Ottawa County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 128. The village located on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. The village played a significant role in the War of 1812 as the location of the squadron of U.S. naval commander Oliver Hazard Perry, who sailed from the port on September 10, 1813 to engage a British squadron just north of the island in the Battle of Lake Erie. The village is a popular summer resort and recreational destination. Ferry service connects it with Catawba Island, Kelleys Island, Port Clinton, and Sandusky, Ohio.

Put-in-Bay is located at 41°39'11" North, 82°49'3" West (41.653006, -82.817620)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 28.12% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 128 people, 67 households, and 36 families residing in the village. The population density is 107.4/km² (279.2/mi²). There are 179 housing units at an average density of 150.2/km² (390.5/mi²). The population is nearly exclusively white.

The summer population is higher than the permanent population.

There are 67 households out of which 16.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.8% are non-families. 41.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.91 and the average family size is 2.59.

In the village the population is spread out with 15.6% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 38.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. There are slightly more males than females both in the total and in the adult population.

The median income for a household in the village is $52,917, and the median income for a family is $80,000. Males have a median income of $47,083 versus $38,750 for females. The per capita income for the village is $35,301. 0.0% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line.
