Pylons of Cadiz - Definition and Overview

The Pylons of Cadiz are two pylons for a 132kV-powerline crossing the bay of Cadiz in Spain. The pylons of Cadiz are 158 metres high and designed for two circuits. The pylons of Cadiz are designed by A. M. Toscano and from a very unconventional construction, which consists of a frustum steel framework construction with a narrow grid width and one crossbar on the top for the conductors. This unconventional construction mode was chosen because Spanish steel factories were not able to produce large steel carries at the time, when these pylons were built and importing such carriers was impossible because of the Franco regime.
