Pyran - Definition and Overview

In chemistry, a pyran is a six member aromatic heterocyclic ring with five carbons and one oxygen. The molecular formula is C5H5O, with double-bonds between carbons 1, 2 and carbons 4, 5.

Pyrans are generally discussed in the context of monosaccharides, such as the ring form of glucose (D-glucopyranose).
