Racine County is a county located in the state of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 188,831. Its county seat is Racine6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,051 km² (792 mi²). 863 km² (333 mi²) of it is land and 1,188 km² (459 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 57.94% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 188,831 people, 70,819 households, and 49,856 families residing in the county. The population density is 219/km² (567/mi²). There are 74,718 housing units at an average density of 87/km² (224/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 83.04% White, 10.47% Black or African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 3.69% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. 7.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 70,819 households out of which 34.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.00% are married couples living together, 12.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.60% are non-families. 24.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.59 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the county, the population is spread out with 27.00% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 29.90% from 25 to 44, 22.50% from 45 to 64, and 12.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 98.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.50 males.
