Ranajit Guha is a pioneer in the field of Subaltern studies. Around 1960, he shifted from India to an American university.
His research methods demands the use of source material available at local level. He has started a trend in history writing which has been followed by many historians afterwards. He also has Marxist leanings in his writing.
