Rank and file - Definition |
Rank-and-file refers to the ordinary members of an organisation, excluding the officers or managers. It is often used in reference to the armed forces, where it refers to the enlisted troops.
Appealing to the rank-and-file is the aim of many trade union and socialist groups, who see a class distinction between those who manage and those who are managed.
