Rapcore Rapcore

Rapcore - Definition and Overview

Rapcore, also called rap/rock or rap/metal is the fusion of rap and rock, most often rapping and music that is closer to rock than rap, most often metal. The roots of rapcore can be found in albums by artists such as the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Typical of rapcore are political bands like Rage Against The Machine, End7, Senser and Aztlan Underground on the one hand and fun/aggression-oriented artists like Limp Bizkit, 311, Crazy Town, or Kid Rock. The first dedicated rapcore band was probably the little-known Dutch group Urban Dance Squad that inspired the founders of Rage Against The Machine.

Today, rapcore bands are more so recognized as those who fuse hardcore punk and Heavy metal music aesthetics with rap music. Notable groups include (Hed) Planet Earth, Biohazard and Candiria.

See nu metal for description of a similar and probably overlapping genre.
