RapidIO - Definition

Overview

The RapidIO™ architecture is is a high-performance, packet-switched, interconnect technology for interconnecting chips on a circuit board and circuit boards using a backplane. This new high-performance, packet-switched interconnect technology was designed for embedded systems, primarily for the networking and communications markets.

RapidIO Trade Association

Industry leaders in networking, communications, semiconductors, and embedded systems have founded the RapidIO Trade Association to develop and support this new open standard. Alcatel (http://www.alcatel.com), AMCC (http://www.amcc.com), EMC Corporation (http://www.emc.com/), Ericsson (http://www.ericsson.com), Freescale (http://www.freescale.com/rapidio), Lucent Technologies (http://www.lucent.com), Mercury Computer Systems (http://www.mc.com), PMC-Sierra (http://www.pmc-sierra.com), Texas Instruments (http://www.ti.com), and Tundra (http://www.tundra.com) comprise the Steering Committee of the RapidIO Trade Association (http://www.rapidio.org).
