Red River (Tennessee) - Definition and Overview

The Red River is a river in northern Tennessee that branches off from the Cumberland River at Clarksville. It forks into two Red Rivers. The eastern fork that winds through Montgomery County and into Port Royal State Park, and then continuing into Robertson County. It then runs through Logan and Simpson counties in Kentucky, and finally back into Robertson and Sumner counties in Tennessee.

At Adams, Tennessee, canoeing on the river is offered at the Bell Witch Cave.

The northern fork meanders through Montgomery County, and into Christian County, Kentucky and becoming another Red River of Kentucky, as there are two Red Rivers in Kentucky. It terminates in Todd County, Kentucky.

Both Red Rivers serve the Red River Watershed. The entire watershed collects rain from an area 1,482 square miles large.
