Republic Star Destroyer - Definition and Overview

The Republic Star Destroyer is a fictional type of starship from the Star Wars universe. It was designed and built by Rendilli Stardrive for the New Republic as a lower-cost alternative to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer.

Notably, she only required a fifth of the crew, yet had firepower twenty percent greater than that of an Imperial-I. In addition, she was only half the cost of the Imperial-II and two Republics would defeat a single ISD2. Fighter complement remained similar at six squadrons. However, the design almost certainly had much inferior endurance (perhaps as little as six months, compared to six years on the Imperial) and the extensive ground-assault complement of the Imperial was probably deleted.

The design likely has more in common with the Victory-class Star Destroyer than the Imperial.

This design was not procured in great numbers and was apparently retired only a few years after its introduction.
