Revolutionary Youth Movement - Definition and Overview

Revolutionary Youth Movement was the section of Students for a Democratic Society that opposed the Progressive Labor Party. Most of the national committee joined the RYM. The RYM and PLP controlled remanants of SDS both claimed to the be the 'real' SDS, calling the others "imposters". RYM split over the issue of when to declare war on the United States government.

Revolutionary Youth Movement I believed that the war against the U.S. government should begin immediately, they eventually became the Weather Underground Organization. Revolutionary Youth Movement II upheld that People's War should not begin until the revolution had massive support, and a revolutionary party was formed to lead the masses. Revolutionary Union fore-runner of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA and the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) eventually grew out of RYM II. Leaders of the Revolutionary Youth Movement include Michael Klonsky, Bob Avakian, C. Clark Kissinger, Bernadine Dohrn, Mark Rudd, and Bill Ayers.
