Father Richard John Neuhaus is a prominent American Catholic intellectual, founder and editor of the prestigous journal, First Things. The journal is published by the "Institute on Religion and Public Life".
Originally from the Ottawa Valley of Ontario, Canada, Newhaus was brought up Lutheran. Ordained a Lutheran minister, Neuhaus ministered to the poor in New York City. He was active in the Civil Rights Movement, knowing Dr. Martin Luther King.
Neuhaus converted to Catholicism and was ordained a priest. He is a prominent orthodox Catholic figure, well known in Catholic circles both in the United Stated and Canada as well as in The Vatican.
He is especially noted for the work he has done to promote a dialogue between Catholics and other Christians, especially evangelicals.
