Rick Kahn was the volunteer campaign treasurer and close friend of the late senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN). As eulogist at the far-left politician's televised memorial service on October 29, 2002, Kahn took the opportunity to ramble off a scathing diatribe rallying against Republicans, urging the crowd to jeer along with him. The backlash lead to Gov. Jesse Ventura walking out of the event and a vindictive public who voted Republican Norm Coleman over Walter Mondale to fill the seat of the deceased liberal scion. Prior to the memorial service turned political rally, Coleman was down 8 percentage points in the polls. The public also "voted" for Coleman in that over $150,000.00 was donated to his campaign almost overnight from angry Minnesotans who'd tuned into the event. Kahn has since retired into a life of seclusion as a reaction to the negative fall-out from irate Democrats who blamed him for costing them the election.
