Risca Risca

Risca - Definition and Overview

Risca is a small town of approximately 15,000 people in the county borough of Caerphilly, traditional county of Monmouthshire, south Wales, UK. It has a rural aspect, and is surrounded by several extensively-wooded hills including Mynydd Machen (362 m) and Twmbarlwm (419 m). Twmbarlwm has the remains of an iron-age hill fort near its top, and this is believed to have been built by the Silures, the Celtic tribe that inhabited the area before and during Roman times.

It has an award-winning choir.

Some extensive mountain bike trails exist just to the north of the town, at Cwmcarn.

The nearest city is Newport, which is 5 miles away. Cardiff, the capital of Wales is only a little further, at 14 miles.
