Robert Woodward (1917-1979) was a US chemist interested in organic synthesis who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1965. A native of Boston, Massachusetts, he received his bachelor's degree from MIT in 1936, and his Ph.D. from the same institution in 1937.
