Rodelinda - Definition and Overview

Rodelinda is an Italian opera by George Frideric Handel. It was based on a libretto by Nicolà Haym, in turn based on an earlier libretto by Antonio Salvi.

It was first performed at the King’s Theatre in the Haymarket, London, on 13 February, 1725.

Like Handel's other works in the opera seria genre, Rodelinda fell into oblivion for two hundred years. However, since the late 1950s, it has been revived regularly and has become part of the standard operatic repertoire.

There are a several recordings of it.
