Ron Carter (born May 4, 1937, Ferndale, Michigan, USA) is a jazz bassist. He has appeared on over 2,500 albums, making him one of the most-recorded bassists in jazz history. He came to fame via the most famous of the Miles Davis quintets of the early 1960s, which also included Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Tony Williams. Ron Carter also performed on some of Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter's solo projects. In addition, he has performed and recorded with Antonio Carlos Jobim, McCoy Tyner, Stanley Turrentine, Freddie Hubbard, Stan Getz, Coleman Hawkins, Joe Henderson, Horace Silver, Kenny Burrell, Milt Jackson, and many more important jazz artists. He has also recorded over 20 albums as a bandleader. He appears on the alternative hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest's influential album Low End Theory. Ron Carter is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music.
