Ronnie VanZant (January 15 1948 - October 20 1977) was the founder, lead singer, and songwriter for the Classic rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, he died during a tour when the band's jet ran out of fuel over a Mississippi swamp and crashed. VanZant, Steve and Cassie Gaines were killed and all the other band members were injured also.
