Roseville, Newark, New Jersey - Definition and Overview |
|
|
Roseville is a neighborhood in northwestern Newark, New Jersey, bordering Bloomfield and East Orange. To the neighborhood's immediate east is the Newark City Subway and Branch Brook Park.
Roseville was originally called "Rowesville." Its main commercial streets are Orange Avenue and Roseville Avenue. It formerly had its own train station. Most of the residents are Catholic and the parish church is St. Rose of Lima.
The 1912 ethnic map of Newark shows that the far northern part of the district was majority Italian, but the rest of the neighborhood was not associated with any single ethnic group.
A major landmark of Roseville was the Newark School's Stadium, which was torn down in 2004.
