The Ross R. Barnett Reservoir is named for Ross R. Barnett, the 52nd Governor of the U.S. state of Mississippi. The reservoir was created by impounding the Pearl River between Madison and Rankin Counties. It has 105 miles of shoreline and is bounded on the north by the historic Natchez Trace.
