Rowing World Records - Definition and Overview

All records set over the international rowing distance of 2,000 m - believed to be correct as of September 2004. Indoor records set on the Concept2 indoor rower.

Split refers to the average time to complete 500 m (i.e. the 2,000 m time divided by 4).

On Water Records

It is worth noting that rowing times are strongly affected by weather conditions - the majority of the these times were set under a strong tailwind.

As recognised by FISA, a world record time is one recorded on a regatta course that has previously held the World Championships, Olympic Games, or World Cup since 1980.

  • Lwt Men: Crew average 70 kg (154 lb) - no rower over 72.5 kg (159 lb)
  • Lwt Women: Crew average 57 kg (125 lb) - no one over 59 kg (130 lb)
