The Royal University of Bhutan, founded on June 3, 2003, is the national university system of Bhutan. It is comprised of 10 member institutions including:
- Sherubtse College in Kanglung, Trashigang, the original college in Bhutan
- The National Institute of Education (NIE) with campuses in Paro and Samtse
- The Centre for Bhutan Studies (CBS) in Thimphu
- The Royal Institute of Management (RIM) in Semtokha
- The Royal Bhutan Institute of Technology (RBIT) in Phuentsholing, Chukha
- The Institute of Language and Cultural Studies (ILCS) in Semtokha
- The Natural Resource Training Institute (NRTI) in Lobesa, Wangdue Phodrang
- The National Institute of Traditional Medicine (NITM) in Thimphu
- The Royal Institute of Health Sciences (RIHS) in Thimpu
The Institute of Language and Cultural Studies, presently in Semtokha near Thimphu, is slated to expand to 500+ students and move to Taktsi in Trongsa dzongkhag. A primary task of ILCS is to preserve and promote Dzongkha, the national language of Bhutan.
