S/MIME - Definition and Overview

S/MIME (Secure / Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) is a standard for public key encryption and signing of e-mail encapsulated in MIME. S/MIME is similar to OpenPGP and older PGP/MIME, but incompatible with those.
