They are well known for their various entry-level products including the S3 Trio, S3 Virge, Diamond Stealth, and Savage series of graphics cards. S3 developed S3TC, one of the first widespread image compression methods to be used on textures used in computer graphics, allowing for more effecient usage of graphics memory and bus bandwidth. This compression method has been used within the graphics APIs OpenGL and DirectX.
