SAGE: The People Who Make IT Work is an international nonprofit professional association of system administrators. It is a Special Technical Group of the USENIX Association.
"It is organized to advance the status of computer system administration as a profession, establish standards of professional excellence and recognize those who attain them, develop guidelines for improving the technical and managerial capabilities of members of the profession, and promote activities that advance the state of the art or the community."[1] (http://sageweb.sage.org/about/#SAGE)
Until November 2003, SAGE was known as the System Administrators Guild.
Major activities
- Co-sponsors (with USENIX) the annual system administration conference, LISA.
- Hosts several technical and professional mailing lists and a discussion website called SAGEwire (http://sagewire.sage.org/).
- Produces a regular email compilation of system administration-related news articles called SAGEnews (http://sageweb.sage.org/news/).
- Compiles an annual salary survey of system administrators' salaries keyed to many variables.
- Produced a certification called cSAGE.
