SFTP - Definition and Overview

In computing, SFTP can refer to one of several things:

• SSH file transfer protocol, a network protocol designed by the IETF to provide secure file transfer and manipulation facilities over the secure shell (SSH) protocol.

• Secure FTP, the unrelated practice of running FTP over SSH.

• Simple File Transfer Protocol, an unsecured and rarely-used file transfer protocol from the early days of the Internet.
