Saddleback Church is an Evangelical Christian church in Lake Forest situated in southern Orange County in southwestern Southern California. Under founding pastor Rick Warren the church has grown to an average weekend attendance of over 20,000. Saddleback is part of a growing trend of large Evangelical churches in North America that are referred to as Megachurches. Saddleback is best known as the originating church for the Purpose Driven church movement. Rick Warren and his wife Kay founded the church with one family in 1980. Saddleback has since become a prototype and template for church growth to Christian leaders.
