Salamanca, Tasmania - Definition and Overview

Salamanca, Tasmania is the name given to the waterfront part of Hobart, Tasmania, along the esplanade, near Battery Point. Its main thouroughfare is the leafy Castray Esplanade.

Salamanca is the site for the Saturday Salamanca Market, and also the Hobart Summer Festival (including the Taste of Tasmania) in January. In the mid-1990s, Salamanca Square, a sheltered, pedestrian area was opened, adjacent to the now defuct Antarctic Adventure. In 2001, four former grain silos on the esplanade were converted to luxury apartments, now known as The Silos Apartments.
