Salisbury University (Salisbury State University prior to 2001) is a nationally accredited, four-year comprehensive public university located in the city of Salisbury, Maryland on the Delmarva Peninsula. The school is part of the University System of Maryland.

The college was founded in 1925 as a two-year institution to train teachers. The course of study was increased to three years in 1931 and to four years in 1934. Between 1962 and 1995 several Masters Degree programs were approved. Currently, Salisbury University offers 35 distinct undergraduate and graduate degree programs. There are now four schools at the University, all of which are endowed (a rarity among public institutions):

  • Fulton School of Liberal Arts
  • Henson School of Science and Technology
  • Perdue School of Business
  • Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies

The school has grown steadily since its founding and now is attended by approximately 6,060 undergraduate and 622 graduate students. Undergraduate minority enrollment is 12%. Most undergraduates (68%) live off campus. There are 1,707 residence hall spaces on campus. Tuition and fees for Maryland residents are $5,564 annually and $12,452 for non-residents. Including room and board, per annum expenses are approximately $12,314 and $19,202 for residents and nonresidents, respectively. About 77% of undergraduate students receive financial aid. Salisbury University awards nearly $1 million each year in academic scholarships. Approximately 10% of the incoming freshmen have academic scholarships.

Salisbury University's colors are maroon and gold. The school mascot is the Seagull. The school competes in the Atlantic Central Football Conference.
